Nini Frydkjær Brandt: The Musk Ox wool from Greenland

Nini Frydkjær Brandt lives in the small village of Kangerlussuaq in Greenland. She has been the owner of the handcraft & art shop “By Heart” for the past 7 years, where she offers sustainable art crafted with Greenlandic materials and beautiful Musk Ox yarns. To honour the tradition, she only collects wool from dog sled hunting in the Greenlandic mountains. The wool is then worked by hand, sorted, cleaned, spun, dyed and knitted with care and love, in the respect of the Greenlandic nature and heritage.

During the lecture, Nini will explain why the Musk Ox is such a fantastic animal. She will take you on a journey that explores the process of how the finest wool in the world is crafted from the wild Musk Ok, who roam in the Greenlandic mountains. Nini will have Musk Ox materials on display, such as horns, boss, guard hair and of course the wool (summer and winter) to see and touch and she will demonstrate spinning. A great hands-on experience that combines learning about this special wool and Greenlandic tradition.
